Construction of West Benhar Wind Farm.

West Benhar is a seven turbine wind farm with individual turbine ratings of 4.3 megawatts (MW), a rotor diameter of 117m and a tip height of 149.9m.

With a total generating capacity of up to 30.1MW West Benhar will supply low carbon electricity to power up to 18,000 homes.

CHP was involved from the initial investment appraisal stage and provided budgeting, procurement and commercial management on all aspects of the project.

The site is in a forested area with very challenging ground conditions – peat depths of over 6 metres were encountered.

Innovative design and construction solutions were required for the foundation bases and crane hardstandings, including:

  • Foundation bases raised above ground level and constructed on CFA piled foundations.
  • Crane hardstandings raised above ground level, with specialist engineered platform detail, constructed on a mat of PCC / steel driven piles.

The main construction works were completed in September 2022.
