Dornell is the largest EDF wind farm in Europe comprising 59 turbines and capable of generating 177MW – enough energy to power 106,000 homes.

This was an exciting and challenging site because of its scale and location. CHP was involved from the initial investment appraisal stage to close out of the final accounts.

  • CHP delivered EDF’s largest onshore wind farm in Europe
  • A challenging site due to its scale and location, CHP provided full appraisal services from the outset.
  • Compliance with specialist environmental considerations to protect wildlife and alternative solutions were required to manage harsh weather conditions.
  • CHP provided commercial assessment of options for turbines and was responsible for all commercial management of construction operations.
Doronell Wind Farm

The individual turbine rating is 3MW and the turbines have a tip height of 126m. The construction works, which were finalised in 2019, included the construction of over 40km of access tracks and a substation including 132kV transformers, STATCOM and DNO equipment/plant.

Specialist environmental measures necessitated protection of wildlife and the location of this site meant that harsh winter weather conditions were anticipated and encountered. Extensive off-site highway enabling works were required.

CHP provided construction related cost planning, cost management and cost reporting services and managed the procurement of the Balance of Plant works contractors, including consideration of various alternative turbine options. CHP was also responsible for the commercial management of all construction operations.
