Business and communities in the West Midlands are a step closer to greener energy systems, infrastructure and better air quality on the opening of the Bustleholme battery storage facility in Sandwell, northwest of Birmingham.
We worked with our long time client, EDF Renewables and Pivot Power to provide Cost Management and Contract Administrator services for the project. This included investment appraisal support, pre-construction services, procurement and commercial management of construction operations.
Bustleholme was officially opened and became fully operational in October 2023. Connected to National Grid’s Bustleholme substation, the site will store up to 50MW of power generated from renewable sources during periods of oversupply.
The site has the capacity to store enough electricity to power more than 100,000 homes for up to two hours. The energy will be stored and released back into the national electrical network when there is greater demand – helping to create a greener energy system and infrastructure for the region, supporting ambitions for greater take up of electric vehicles.
